The Gammaton Moor 132kV Substation required a fully integrated SCADA and automation solution capable of unifying multiple vendor Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) into a single secure operational environment.
The primary challenge was to align diverse protection, control, and interlocking philosophies across 132kV bay equipment into a cohesive communication and control framework. This integration had to fully comply with stringent National Grid standards while meeting client-specific operational requirements.
EVOSYS delivered a complete SCADA and automation package, covering system design, engineering, manufacturing, and onsite commissioning.
Our team developed a robust SCADA architecture, including detailed network topologies and I/O mapping aligned with system interlocking philosophies. This ensured seamless coordination between protection and control systems across the substation.
We implemented multi-protocol communication strategies using IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, and DNP3, enabling reliable integration of multi-vendor BCUs and RTUs into a unified control platform.
In parallel, we designed and manufactured bespoke SCADA and gateway panels, fully FAT-ready, including complete internal wiring, labelling, and pre-commissioning validation.
Critical site-wide interlocks, alarms, and control logic were rigorously tested to ensure safe and reliable operational performance.
Through early-stage resolution of complex integration challenges, EVOSYS significantly reduced commissioning risks, cost overruns, and change events during execution.
The project was successfully delivered on schedule, providing the client with a future-ready SCADA and automation system that enhanced operational visibility, improved system reliability, reduced downtime risk, and ensured long-term maintainability of the 132kV asset.
